Diagnosis | Diagnosis: Arboreal alpha-palatal skinks, differ from all other lygosomine genera in the following combinations of characters: palatine bones meeting on the palate mesially; palatal rami of pterygoids separated mesially; pterygoid teeth absent; upper head shields rugose; eyelids well developed, the lower one with translucent disc; nostril in the back part of an undivided nasal, followed by the small postnasal; supranasals present; parietals meet each other behind interparietal; a pair of nuchal scales; dorsal scales sharply keeled; ear opening small with three small auricular lobules; tympanum sunk; limbs well developed, pentadactyl (see also Table 1). |
Comment | Type Species: Vietnascincus rugosus DAREVSKY & ORLOV 1994 is the type species of the genus Vietnascincus DAREVSKY & ORLOV 1994. The species diagnosis is the same as that for the genus. Abundance: only known from its original description (Meiri et al. 2017). This is one of the species called 'lost' and 'rediscovered' by Lindken et al. 2024. |
Etymology | The species name derives from the Latin word “rugosus” — wrinkly. |
