DistributionS Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná), Uruguay, Paraguay (border to Minas Gerais), NE Argentina (San Luis, Chaco, Corrientes, Formosa, La Pampa, and Misiones)

Type locality: South America fide Jan and Sordelli (1865).

TypesHolotype: lost, formerly MSNM (Milano), 350 mm, destroyed in 1943 during World War II. 
Diagnosis 
CommentSynonymy partly after CEI 1993. HOGE et al. (1975) removed L. nattereri from the synonym of L. histricus. However, subsequent authors still considered it as synonym of L. histricus. 
EtymologyNamed after Latin histricus, of or belonging to stage-players. (Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., April 2024)
