DistributionFrench Guiana, Brazil

Type locality: unknown [originally “Südwest-Afrika” (in error)]
TypesHolotype: NMW 17119, a 605 mm female (Rolle).
CommentEiselt (1963) renamed Procteria viridis to Xenodon werneri because Xenodon viridis is preoccupied by Xenodon viridis DUMERIL & BIBRON 1854 (= Macropisthodon plumbicolor CANTOR 1839). YUKI (1993) errected a new genus, Thalesius, for Procteria, which is pre-occupied.

The holotype was supposedly from Tsumeb, German Southwest Africa, but Eiselt questioned this and indicated it was possibly from South America.

Relationships: Xenodon werneri appears to be very similar to X. suspectus.
EtymologyNamed after Franz Werner (1867-1939), Austrian zoologist.
