Type locality: northeast plateau of Mount Ayanganna, Guyana (05° 24’ N, 059° 57’ W; elevation 1490 m).

DiagnosisDiagnosis (genus): Yanomamia is characterized by having parietals and interparietal forming an almost straight posterior margin of the head, keeled and imbricate dorsal scales in transverse but not in longitudinal rows, smooth and posteriorly rounded ventral scales in longitudinal and transverse rows, enlarged temporal scales, gular scales wider than long in two longitudinal rows marginated by diminutive granules continuous and similar in size to those on the lateral sides of neck, femoral pores in the center of a single scale, and transverse vilosities of the hemipenis with spinules.

CommentType species: Arthrosaura guianensis MACCULLOCH & LATHROP 2001 is the type species of the genus Yanomamia MACHADO-PELLEGRINO et al. 2018. 
EtymologyThe specific epithet refers to the country where the species was collected.

The genus was named after the Yanomami Indians and their lands which largely coincide with the Tepui area, the highland region of the Guiana Shield inhabited by these lizards. The genus name, Yanomamia, is feminine.
